We are called to help

  • A family of four lives in a car because the rent on their apartment increased—and their parents just can’t make the payments any more.
  • First, the single father lost his job, then his health, and now their home. They sleep at the overnight shelter, but during the day, father and his preschooler struggle to rebuild their lives.
  • An abused woman and her two children wander through the Mall during rainy afternoons. The children are tired and hungry, but they'll have to wait for dinner and and a safe place to sleep until the overnight shelter opens at 8:30 PM.

These people are members of our community. We can help. We are the NBP. We are called to help alleviate homelessness on the Eastside.

Our Mission

The New Bethlehem Project recognizes Christ's call to serve the poor by being a driving force to meet the urgent, unmet need for a year-round day center for families who are experiencing homelessness on the Eastside.

We believe...

…in every child growing up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment.

…in elders living in security and dignity.

…in healthy family life being affirmed and supported in our communities.

…in every person having the right to a safe, affordable place to call home.

…in compassion, love and respect for all people, especially those who are poor and vulnerable.

…in joining with others to change the systems which oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering.

…in employees and volunteers working in an environment which offers respect, teamwork and excellence.

…in all these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.

...to love God and neighbor is not something abstract, but profoundly concrete: it means seeing in every person the face of the Lord to be served, to serve him concretely. And you are, dear brothers and sisters, the face of Jesus.
